Welcome to Cheyenne’s Story
Where stories come to life and the heartbeat of Indigenous tradition is heard through every word. This is a place where the past and present meet, a vibrant space where the voices of Elders and Knowledge Keepers echo with wisdom, and the teachings of our ancestors are passed down with care.
At the heart of these stories is Cheyenne, a young Métis girl with a curious spirit and a deep connection to the land, her family, and her culture. Through her eyes, we journey into a world filled with adventure, wonder, and gentle teachings.
But Cheyenne is more than just a character. She is a reflection of the childhood some of us never had, and the stories we didn’t get to hear.
As an adult, I’ve embarked on a journey of reclamation, travelling to communities across Alberta to learn directly from Elders, storytellers, trappers, berry pickers, language keepers, and medicine gatherers. I’m walking the land with them, listening to their stories, and weaving them into the pages of Cheyenne’s world, one book at a time.
Each story in this series is inspired by an Elder or Knowledge Keeper who generously shared their time, their teachings, and their heart. They are each honoured at the end of every book, so that children, and all readers, can see where these truths come from and who has carried them forward.
This isn’t just a book series. It’s a living, breathing archive of Indigenous memory, identity, and hope.
Through Cheyenne, we celebrate the joyful aspects of culture that colonization tried to erase: the language, the laughter, the songs, the stories, and the moccasins worn thin from dancing.
We’re building a bridge backward, to the way it should have been. And forward, to the way it still can be.
Adventure & More
Step into a world where every day is a story waiting to unfold.
Cheyenne wakes with the sun and follows the call of the land. Her adventures aren’t just fun; they are filled with teachings, laughter, and tradition. Whether she’s casting a line into still waters with her Moshum, learning how to follow tracks in freshly fallen snow, or helping prepare a feast after the hunt, Cheyenne is learning by living.
She plays traditional games with her cousins, picks berries beside her aunties, and listens as the Elders share stories around the fire, stories that teach her about courage, kindness, and the sacred bond we share with the land.
One of her favourite places is the kitchen table, where Métis, First Nations, and settler families gather to eat, laugh, and share stories. And there’s always one chair left open. Just for you.
In each book, Cheyenne journeys a little further into her culture, her history, and her heart. She learns that being Métis means carrying many stories and knowing how to share them.
Come along on the adventure. The land is calling, and there’s a place for you at the fire, in the story, and at the table.
